The Gen 3 Tesla Wall Connector draws up to 48 amps on a 60 amp circuit. In practice that is roughly 44 miles of range per hour for most Teslas — a full overnight charge from almost any state of charge.
Whether your house can carry the full 48A is decided by a load calculation, not by the number printed on your switchboard. A 80A switchboard already running a heat pump, an electric range and a dryer may not have 48A spare. This is the single most common thing installers get wrong, and it is why we ask about the house before quoting.
If your service will not take 48A, the Wall Connector can be commissioned at a lower amperage. It still charges overnight comfortably. Nobody needs to upgrade a switchboard purely to shave an hour off a charge that happens while you sleep.
If your household is Tesla-only and likely to stay that way, the Wall Connector is the neater unit and the better price. If there is any chance of a second, non-Tesla EV, a universal charger with a Type 2 or Type 2 connector keeps your options open. We install both and have no preference — the full comparison is here.
Answer four questions and you get a real number, not a callback promise. Most quotes come back in under five minutes — including evenings and weekends.
